The final Oakhill Division 1 Table has been published, with our team finishing 8th after their incredible Division 2 Champion's season last year. A creditable performance which could have been even better with just 12 more points as that would have taken the team to 6th. Well done all.
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of recent Club Member Dave Fox. We extend our sympathies to his family and friends. R.I.P. Dave.
Life-time Club Member John Plant and his wife Anthea, have decided to hang up their flat-heeled bowling shoes, and have kindly donated three pairs of bowls to the Club. These will be added to the spare bowls collection in the Clubhouse, and the good news is that two of the pairs are 2.4 and 2.6 thus giving us some much-needed smaller bowls. Many thanks John and Anthea.

Whilst this hot weather continues,several of the Leagues we play in have issued a reminder of the following rule/guideline:
"Open toed sandals or open toed footwear are not allowed while bowling according to BCGBA rules. It will invalidate insurance if there's any injuries".
Just a gentle reminder, if you're the last person to leave the Club (either after a match or after practising), please ensure you have closed all the gates to the green, locked the Toilet and Clubhouse, and locked the main entrance gates - thank you. With regard to the main Gates, together with the contractors we have put a bigger chain on the gate. It's important that when we lock up you lock the 2 locks together not through a link.
The draw for the Club's internal Singles competition has been made and is shown below (click on image for full screen). Players are requested to arrange the matches themselves, with the first round to be completed by the end of July.

It's an Australian site dedicated to Lawn bowls (rather than specificly Crown Green bowls) but has a lot of useful advice on how to improve your game. At the foot of the History page on OUR website we've extracted from there a very useful seven point guide to improving your delivery technique - please give it a read!
We have a lot of work planned at the green - in this connection the Monday afternoon work party is not an exclusive club(!) - any able-bodied volunteers are welcome to help out - work continues through the year.
Barlaston is an ancient parish and large village of Stafford overlooking the Trent valley. The name is of Anglo Saxon origin and is derived from Beornwulfs town or estate. Barlaston is the gateway to the Downs Banks – owned by the National Trust and offering approximately 160 acres of bracken-covered moorland forming an idyllic backdrop to Barlaston village.
Barlaston Bowls Club is a village-based Crown Green Bowls Club offering both competitive League bowls as well as friendly social bowls. We have free parking available for about 20 vehicles. Why not come along and give us a try? - you're sure of a warm welcome! |
